People will often wonder and ask if a parent has to have certain qualifications in order to homeschool. While the answer is “no”, that does not mean homeschooling parents are not qualified for the task.
This is what a typical school year prep looks like in our home, and, in varying degrees, every homeschool home…
May – June: wrap up current year’s school; ask yourself what changes can be made to improve next year
July: begin researching and thinking about curriculum for family and each kiddo; consider outside activities; attend 2 day, state-wide convention; purchase curriculum ![]()
Convention: workshops with the hows, tips, encouragement, learning approaches, ideas for enhancements; huge curriculum hall to browse through options and make informed decisions; interact with other families at various points of the journey
August: become familiar with curriculum; envision and plan the flow of the upcoming school year (keep in mind flexibility is needed from time to time); gather school supplies ![]()

Translation: feel all the feels, experience amazing days and days where everyone just needs to go back to bed, question yourself 10,587 times – and that’s in one day
, watch your kids grow and mature, light bulb moments and “how have you not gotten this yet?!” moments, celebrate wins, hug through the losses, education, conversations, learning how to think versus what to think, etc, etc, etc
So, the next time someone questions your qualifications to educate your children, or you question yourself, think of the countless hours you out in to your homeschool.
He has called you to homeschool, He will equip you for the tasks ![]()
