You Were Created To Be A Leader

7 Biblical leadership skills

7 Biblical Leadership Skills Homeschool Moms Possess

  1. Leaders are servants first – Matthew 20:26

As a homeschooling Mom, you make the needs of your family a priority over other activities in your life.

Homeschooling requires sacrifice on the part of the parents – sacrifice of time, energy, finances, some outside activities.

Some verses to consider on servant leadership:

1 Peter 5:2-4

Acts 20:28

Proverbs 27:23

Matthew 7:12

Philemon 4:6

Galatians 6:9

Proverbs 16:32

Numbers 12:3

Proverbs 3:27

1 Corinthians 10:33

2. Leaders display fairness as a moral obligation – Proverbs 29:14

As a homeschool Mom, we are called to not only promote fairness among our children, but also our family, friends, neighbors, and community. We should be pillars in our community; families others look up to, as we use the freedom of our time flexibility to include being the hands and feet of Jesus to those around us. Our children will learn valuable life lessons from serving others and treating others fairly. Honor and respect will be paid to them on into adulthood.

Verses to consider on displaying fairness as a leader:

Exodus 18:21

Luke 6:31

2 Timothy 2:15-16

Proverbs 21:23

Hebrews 13:17

Psalm 133:1

Jeremiah 23:1

3. Leaders raise up others

We spend our days raising up our children. Who else in our circles of people can we raise up? Who do we see skills and talents in that we can help fan their spark into a flame?

Ladies, we tend to see other moms as competition; let’s chose to see other moms as sisters in Christ and raise up one another to be the best we can be. The spotlight doesn’t need to shine on us 24/7.

Verses to consider for raising others up:

Philippians 2:3-4

Matthew 24:45-47

1 Thessalonians 5:14

Proverbs 18:1

Titus 1:7-9

Proverbs 31:8-9

4. Leaders are teachable

You teach your kiddos all day. You still have some learning to do too 😉 Who do you look up to? Who do you listen to? Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear? Life is a series of seasons where we grow and learn new things; few things stay the same; change is required. Always keep your eyes open for learning opportunities.

Verses to consider on being teachable:

1 Timothy 5:17

Proverbs 11:14

Luke 22:26

Psalm 78:72

John 13:13-17

Proverbs 12:1

Proverbs 22:29

5. Leaders are wise

Being teachable and going through the seasons of life makes us more and more wise as we go through life. Our wisdom, no matter what season we are in, comes first and foremost from the Lord. Are you listening to His voice? Are you reading His Word? Are you listening to the advice of other wise, Christian leaders?

Verses to consider on being wise:

Proverbs 29:11

Luke 12:48

1 Timothy 4:12

Proverbs 23:9

Proverbs 4:23

Luke 6:39

6. Leaders are respected and celebrated

Think of al leader you know. Think of why you follow them/listen to them. Think of their character. Leaders we follow are respected by their followers; if they weren’t they wouldn’t have a following, right?! What is respectable about you? What do others seem to be drawn to in you? Can I just take a moment and celebrate you? Yay you!! Thank you for stepping up and being a leader that lives a respectable life! Thank you for being an example to the world around you!

Verses to consider on respected and celebrated leaders:

Matthew 5:37

1 Timothy 3:2

Hebrews 13:7

Proverbs 16:12

Ecclesiastes 10:17

Proverbs 16:12

1 Timothy 2:1-2

Matthew 6:21

Titus 2:7-8

James 3:1

Daniel 2:48

7. Leaders are resilient

Homeschool Moms have to adapt, change, and go with the flow of the family. We make great plans in our minds of how our days, weeks, and years will look, and let’s be honest, it rarely looks like the perfect picture in our minds. Each day brings something new. But, guess what?! You’re still here! Can we get another “yay you!!”?! Your daily resiliency is a big leadership skill, and a skill that your kids see and will learn from. Books cannot teach this…well, except the Bible 😉

Verses to consider about resiliency:

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Matthew 7:12

Romans 12:8

Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 41:10

Proverbs 24:10

James 1:12

Proverbs 4:25-27

Romans 5:3-5

2 Timothy 2:3-4

Did you know you were a leader before you read this? Do you believe you are a leader? You are. Marriage, parenting, homeschooling, serving, relationships all require some form of leadership.

What leadership skills do you already see in yourself?

Which skills would you like to improve upon?

Which skills are you choosing to lean more about?
