You may be wondering one or all of these things… and that’s totally normal. I get it!
Your feelings are real and they show up whether you are just beginning your homeschool journey, or are already on the path.
You started looking for information online and maybe even in some social media groups, only to find yourself more confused and feeling more overwhelmed with all the different opinions of what to do and what not to do.
I know, I was there. I wondered whether I was qualified to teach my own children. I was in love with the idea of homeschooling, yet had no idea where to start… when I began to do research, it felt overwhelming and I was tempted to give up and put our son back in school. That would just be easier, right??
And boy did it feel lonely!
I only knew one other homeschooling family, and they were getting ready to put their kids back in school.
I was nervous I would fail at this homeschooling thing.
What I found was that my focus was off. I was complicating things that didn’t need to be complicated. I was living up to standards set by those who have a generalized view of education – including myself.
The first year of our homeschooling was filled with tears and frustration. I wondered what I was doing wrong; why my homeschool looked nothing like I had dreamed up in my head. I felt lonely. I felt like a failure and was ready to put our son back in school. I wished I had someone to just show me what to do.
Then, thankfully, over the first few years, God revealed to me that my focus was off. He showed me that I homeschool for an Audience of One.
That homeschooling is a gift of freedom.
That it is more than academics. That I am not alone on this journey. That He called me to homeschool, and He will continue to equip me along the way. And He is revealing the same to you too, my friend.
