Find Your Teaching Style

When you make the decision to homeschool, one of the first questions you ask yourself is, “What do I teach my kids and how do I do it?”

Great question!

The answer is, in general, whatever and however you want. Depending on your state homeschool guidelines, you pretty much have the freedom and flexibility to teach to the interests of your child, what you feel is important and beneficial to learn, and in a way that fits how your child(ren) learns and the pace of your home.

Some states have little requirements for homeschools, while others have more detailed expectations for kiddos who are homeschooled. Either way, you can still discover how your child learns best, and implement that particular type of learning approach in your home.

So, what approaches are out there? Which one(s) feel like they could work in your home?

I’ve laid out an overview of some of the most used learning approaches, and ask you questions to determine if the approach could be right for your homeschool. I’ve also included a few curriculum companies that provide resources that match up with each approach.

The lists and characteristics are by no means exhaustive, as new resources pop up all the time, and each family is a little different. The guide is meant to be just that – a guide to point you in the right direction 😉 I hope this helps narrow things down for you a bit, whether you are new to homeschooling, or are in a new stage with your kiddos and are looking for ways to adjust with your children’s needs.
